Summary
- PSN has been offline for more than 15 hours now and shows no sign of recovery.
- PlayStation has acknowledged the issues but hasn’t provided an update in 10 hours.
- Some fans are worried that we’re going to see a repeat of the infamous 2011 outage, but that’s unlikely to be the case.
The PlayStation Network has been down for over 15 hours, leaving players unable to log into their accounts, access the PlayStation Store, or play online games.
While occasional outages do occur, they are typically resolved within a few hours. However, this disruption has persisted far longer than usual. Since the notorious 2011 PSN outage, which lasted an unprecedented 23 days, PlayStation’s services have generally been stable and reliable. Unfortunately, this ongoing downtime is proving to be a rare and frustrating exception.
Around 7 PM ET last night, PlayStation users began experiencing a widespread outage affecting all PSN services. Many reported being unable to log in, play online, send messages, or access the PlayStation Store. While initial expectations were for a quick resolution, the outage has now stretched past 15 hours with no clear update from PlayStation on when services will be restored.
PSN Has Been Down For More Than Half A Day
Shortly after the outage began, the official Ask PlayStation Twitter account acknowledged the issue, stating that “some users might be currently experiencing issues.” However, that message was posted 10 hours ago, and there has been no further update on when the PlayStation Network (PSN) will be restored.
As of now, the PSN service status page still indicates that all services remain completely offline. While the page reassures users that PlayStation is working to resolve the issue “as soon as possible,” the lack of updates or an explanation for the prolonged downtime has left many fans increasingly concerned.
Note
Twitter user graham_brn pointed out that you can’t pair a disk drive to the PS5 while PSN is down, meaning that anyone with a physical collection who hasn’t paired it already won’t be able to access their games.
Network outages are fairly common for online services, but the unusually long duration of the current disruption—especially over the weekend—has many fans concerned about a potential repeat of the 2011 outage. However, that incident was caused by a cyberattack, which doesn’t appear to be the case this time. We’ll continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as there are any developments.
