Grand Theft Auto 5’s player count has been steadily rising since October, marking an impressive resurgence on Steam. According to Steam Charts, the game’s average concurrent players grew from 91,560 in October to 100,381 in November, 123,261 in December, and 128,587 over the last 30 days in January. This represents a significant 40% increase in just four months.

Notably, the past 30 days have been one of GTA 5’s strongest periods on Steam, with its average of 128,587 ranking as the fifth-highest in the game’s history. Only a few months have recorded higher numbers: December 2023 (145,070), May 2020 (141,369), February 2020 (142,724), and its launch month in April 2015 (192,714).

The resurgence isn’t limited to GTA 5. Grand Theft Auto 4 has seen a remarkable 74% increase in players over the past two months, reaching an average of 3,060—its third-highest since launching on Steam in July 2012. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition and Vice City – The Definitive Edition both achieved their highest-ever peak player counts on January 26.

It’s clear that excitement for the Grand Theft Auto series is stronger than ever—but with fans eagerly awaiting the next installment, the question remains: when will it arrive?
